Works in oil

My oil paintings are to me like stories or fairy tales. My main source of inspiration is modern dance and ballet. Not by the actual décor or the storyline, but by the intensity of emotion which they can convey to the audience. For example, a single gesture or motion may portray love, grief or hate. This is what I hope to achieve with my art. Hence my paintings can sometimes be deeply personal, but I hope that each person will see something different that moves them depending on their own background and state of mind.

I usually work on a painting for weeks or months, leaving time for reflection while the layers dry. The harmony and balance of colours within each small section of the painting is more important to me than the motive itself. I use intentionally distorted perspectives to render my paintings less realistic and more dreamlike. A painting seems to me as having almost a life of its own, and often what starts out as a sombre painting gradually turns more happy and humorous as my mood changes during the process.
