About the artist Kirsten Moselund

I was born in Denmark in 1976 and already from early childhood I was drawing and painting. As a child and young adult I won about a dozen drawing competitions, including a gold key at the New York Scholastic Arts exhibition. Since then the creative process has been an important part of my life, in my work as a scientist and when painting in my studio.

For long I debated within myself as to which of my passions to choose to pursue professionally. I decided after living in South Africa in 1997-1998 that I, through science, could help overcome many of the problems we face in the world today. I now hold a PhD in electronics and work part-time as a researcher. A good deal of my spare time I’m happy to devote to painting each week.

With no formal art education I’m therefore a self-taught painter. Nevertheless, I have followed numerous professional art courses both in the United States, Denmark, and more recently in Zürich at the Hochschule der Künste. I choose classes which I find guiding or inspirational to my work.

For me painting is like an intense storytelling in one visual setting. When I work on a painting there is always a tale unfolding in my mind, which changes each time I engage with the canvas; as long as I am working, it is alive emitting endless opportunities. I often have the same feeling of loss when I finish a painting as when finishing a good book. It is my hope that unique stories will appear to those who view my paintings.
